Matters of the Art, located in Haughton, LA, is a social enterprise of Evergreen Life Services. Evergreen is a nonprofit organization providing services to over 1,400 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in seven states. Matters of the Art is under the direction of Art Director, Suzy Nelson, and has staff within several artistic disciplines.
Matters of the Art enhances the quality of life for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by focusing on their abilities, not their disabilities. The interests, self- esteem and motor skills of the artists are stimulated with creative outlets. Small group instruction in glass-fusing, weaving, pottery, sewing and visual art provides such stimulation. The creative center allows the individuals to express themselves and engage within the community. Sales of the art products are reinvested into the program and provide the individuals with wages.
Evergreen Life Services offers a wide array of activities and services enhancing the quality of life for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Evergreen builds enduring relationships with those served, their families and our communities.
